Chocolate Study

Recently, I taught about chocolate in a tutorial. The director of the tutorial had been to Costa Rica with her family, and one of the kids’ favorite activities there was a cacao tree/ chocolate farm tour. It is such a fun subject to explore, so I thought I’d share some of the resources I used.
Before I showed pictures or videos, I had the kids draw what they thought a “chocolate tree” might look like. We also talked about when God created cacao trees.
Have different types of dark chocolate (and milk chocolates) to try. Cacao nibs would be good to have too as they are directly from the cacao beans!
You can have them do a word search printable giving them 5 minutes and awarding some chocolate prizes to the top 2-3 kids. Don’t worry, everyone gets to have chocolate later:).

This is a great graphic from the same website above. https://damecacao.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/24.-How-chocolate-is-made-from-tree-to-bar.jpg
Play the Bean Game. I added “cacao bean,” and kids rubbed their bellies and say, “Yummy, yummy chocolate.” If playing competitively, have the last one to perform the bean motion called out until only one (winner) is left (who becomes the caller). See link below.

If you can’t go to the library, you can just watch the reading of the book No Monkeys, No Chocolate.

Here’s a free lesson for high schoolers showing, perhaps, another side of electric vehicles and encouraging teens to think about the pros and cons of “green energy.”
